Mallika Chopkra, Power of Living With Intent

What a joyful experience listening to Mallika Chopkra, daughter of Deepak Chopkra yesterday.

This is what I learned from  Mallika which she told us she wrote about in her book, Living With Intent: My Somewhat Messy Journey to Purpose, Peace, & Joy is the Intent Acronym.

Ode to Suzanne Somers, by Gina Meyers

Ode to Suzanne Somers

by Gina Meyers

I wasn’t really introduced to Suzanne Somers conventionally. I was too young and impressionable to watch Three’s Company and my mother said there was “too much sexual innuendo” in it, and so instead I watched Bewitched via syndication, and subsequently wrote three large compediums and a bunch of smaller versions of my Bewitched Television trivia books and cookbooks. LOL.

Like, there’s absolutely no sexual connotations in Bewitched!

Sarcasm aside, I absolutely LOVED Suzanne Somers and what her BRAND represented.

She and her husband in my humble opinion were masterful and so darn helpful to the world.

That’s why I use the word, devastated when I heard the news a few days ago of her passing.

She lived her life on her own terms and from what I saw from afar reminded me why she worked so hard to stick around--Life is a wonderful adventure which can be full of love, kindness, and joy.

On many occasions these days, you can see me with a version of The  Millionaire Next Door book in my purse, alongside one of my favorite Suzanne Somer’s books such as Ageless.

Scanning through her loads of informational you tubes, ensuring I watched and rewatched her Thyroid talk when mine went temporarily wonky after a Paxlovid reaction. I felt comfort knowing that I could naturally try to rebalance. Which I successfully did through exercise, vitamins, and nutrition.

She always has been the unsung hero and the coach in the background. I never reached out because I felt close to her from afar. Us blondes from the bay area need to stick together afterall.

Her book, Keeping Secrets, was instrumental in acknowledging some of my family members struggles with alcoholism. Lucky for me, my grandfather who was afflicted made a conscious choice each day for over fifty years to abstain from the effects of alcohol and alcohol related diseases!

It also helped me to not necessarily label myself an enabler of which I am not, but rather to “enable me with knowledge” to do better, to be better and to grow in life.

Society can do a number on us especially those that haven’t had the smoothiest childhoods and Suzanne Mahoney aka (Mrs. Alan Hamel)  a woman from San Bruno, California showed me truly what “Blonde Ambition can and does look like.”

As a mother, teacher, entrepreneur, author, publisher, WRITER, cook, baker, people pleaser, kind person-- we all wear many hats. WOMAN!

It is so great to know that eventhough her life was far from perfect, I doubt that she dwelled much on what didn’t work because she was so happy and having so much fun with what did work.

There is a saying, “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” I’d like to think of myself as an honory learner from the masterful teacher, Suzanne.

A true audiodiadact, Suzanne was more knowledgeable about women’s health than many people. She took the time to listen. I listened to some of her podcasts, and frequented her website, and on occasion would watch her answer questions via the telephone at her home in Palm Springs by Al’s Bar. (Her husband’s bar in their backyard I believe). He’d whip them up a drink or two and she would patiently answer callers questions. There was this one lady that had called before and Suzanne was more than happy to patiently listen and clearly answer her questions to the best of her ability and to ask for clarification.

A true champion for women’s health and advocacy. Though many in the community tried to poo-poo her hundreds if not thousands of hours of research, communications with holistic health practioners, board-certified doctors, and recipes, health products, healing tips, sexual positivity, positive body image, feminitity, glamour, kindness.

I’ll change my feeling of devastation to gratefulness. I am so beyond grateful that a woman like Suzanne Somers graced us with her kindness, business acumen, entrepreneurial spirit, trail blazing attitude on this planet.

We are all lucky to have learned from her, from afar or up close.

She made it okay to have those meaningful life conversations with those we love and to help us to accept and love ourselves and others.

No one wants to live in misery and if you do, you might want company, but there’s no room for it when you are talking about Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel.

Looking forward to reading Two’s Company, and she’s left behind so many informative books--we will all be very busy admiring her compendium of work for years to come.

There’s an expression about being the third wheel and in this circumstance I’m glad to be part of the Three’s Company and Two is not a crowd!

The Three E's of Trauma

What I learned while perusing a book about life events. Trauma has the 3 e's.

The Event

The Experience

The Effects

I think the ACE Score needs to be measured by ages. For instance: birth to three, 4-7, 8-11, 12-14, 14-16, 16-18, and be extended for college, young adult life.

My reasoning. Each life experience for better or worse can build us up or temporarily create a trauma. To rid oneself of the trauma bond, you must be aware of the event and circumstance so you can uplift your spirit and grow. Noticable change will only occur if you can recognize the three e's of trauma and built up your awareness through growing but not dwelling on the problem.

Thoughts on Noni

My grandma's favorite color was blue and her favorite number was 13, just like my daughter's favorite number.

She was a private person and like in the movie, The Fockners, there definitely was a "family circle of trust."

My grandma literally spent hours planning our future by planning how hers was going to end.

For the bond to be strong though you have to do what's not popular sometimes.

For sure my grandmother's funeral would have attracted hundreds. Though probably not as extreme as her brother-in-law, the late Darius Caffarratti, for his funeral attracted madams, public officials, family and friends.

The smallness made even the priest open up about how he had lost his own mother this year.

"Oh, Julia Ferrari, now that's a famous name he explained in his South African accent."

Grandma believed that charity begins at home.

We had a semi-surprise birthday for her years ago and she whipped up homemade pasta sauce with the tomatoes from the backyard.

Everyone agreed, it was the most scrumptious pasta sauce we'd ever had.

A Thought on My Grandmother's Passing at 102

Grandma was shy by 29 days of her 103rd birthday, but she chose Grandpa's birthday to rejoin him in Heaven.

A thought I jotted down that I want to share.

There were more happy times than sad,

more grateful times than bad.

That simple phrase says a lot to me, for in it is a whole lot of living.

It Might Be A Thursday, But It Feels Like A Monday

Last week had its' Lion's Share of challenges, but how often do we mistake a bad life for a bad day? It's okay to blame it on a Monday even if it is Thursday after all.

In my humble opinion, far better to call an off moment a Monday even if it a Thursday, or Tuesday, or Saturday.

Don't write it off, just chalk it up to a Monday, even if it is a Thursday.

Better to call it a weekday where historically things can be more chaotic than to blame it on yourself.

And today actually is Monday, and I might just blame the good feelings for leftover good vibes from Sunday.

For whatever day it is, if we remember whatever we are going through, "this too shall pass." Even the good stuff, then It Might Be A Thursday, But it Feels Like A Monday.

Or, in the case of today, Monday, October 2nd, 2023, it feels like a Saturday!

How To Make A Dream Board

 How To Make A Dreamboard

By Gina Meyers

Gather Materials:

You can either use magazines or images found on websites. If you choose to use magazines, gather different types of magazines, so you can cover all the topics that you are interested in. For instance, if you are interested in traveling, visiting a local travel agency and requesting brochures on the countries you would like to visit. If you are interested in Yoga for instance, purchasing a magazine devoted to Yoga, health and wellness would be appropriate.  You can also use documents you collect or bulletins, found at your local church or university. You want to find images that remind you of your goals and ambitions, hopes, dreams for your future. These images are meant to motivate.

Cut out images:

Go through each magazine and cut out any pictures, inspirational words that appeal to you. Allow your mind to wander and follow your instinct. Find bright, colorful images that make you feel ambitious, motivated, exhilarated, fantastic. Ideas are: nice houses, cars, flowers, landmarks, fitness models, powerful words (love, hope).

Purchase a board:

A large blank poster board, inexpensive and available at a local art store or dollar store, discount drug store/pharmacy. You can also invest in a canvas or a magnet board.

Cut and paste pictures:

Cut and paste pictures on your dreamboard. You can use glue sticks, or elmer’s glue.

Place the dream board:

Put it beside your bed, or in your office, or in your workspace. If you don’t have a lot of room, take a picture of your dreamboard and look at it on your phone or print out a photograph of your dreamboard. It will be a smaller version, so good for handy reference to keep in your glove box of your car.

Over the course of a year, you will notice that you will start to achieve some of your dreams that you have placed on your board.

Manifesting Your Dreams for College Students by Gina Meyers

Are you a college student looking to manifest your dreams? Well, look no further.

There’s a lot of things that I have learned along the journey of life. One essentially important thing that I have learned is that if you don’t write down your dreams you cannot hope to achieve those dreams in the future. When I was in college, I wrote in my diary that I wanted to write a book and I wanted to own a publishing company. Years went by for the second, to own a publishing company, but it happened as did writing my first book, which happened sooner. I have a creative spirit so I’ve always been a writer, but from a practical standpoint, nothing happens in your life until you write it down. Don’t limit yourself, just tap into what your heart is saying. I know that sounds difficult because there are a lot of distractions. Especially if you are living away from home for the first time, living in the dorms with lots of people. It’s difficult because they’ve brought their physical, mental, and spiritual baggage from home as have you. Most of the time you don’t even know all of the positive and negative experiences you’ve gone through, that’s what I mean by baggage.

But, first and foremost you need to prioritize your life.

Designing the life of your dreams involves FREE dreaming.

Here’s your hall pass to your DREAMS.

You have my permission to dream.

In summary, you have to have a clear vision of what your heart desires.

WRITE DOWN YOUR DREAMS

There is an old adage and it goes something like this: “life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” While this expression is true on the surface it has nothing to do with your dreams. Dreams are like promises that you make to the universe. You are sharing what your truths are, your passions, your heart's desires, your spirit, your soul. They are dreams that don’t feel real, they feel serendipitous.

At times struggles will come and you may become temporarily

Dreams will always manifest if you call them out. Calling them out means writing them down, or making a dream board. A dream board is a visual representation of what you hope for in the future. It isn’t anyones business what your dreams are, and most of the time, people cannot fathom what your heart’s desire is. There are people in the world that are enlightened such as life coaches, but ultimately your dreams are yours. They aren’t up for debate, critique, or approval.

Bottom line: write it down and visualize your dreams. Steve Harvey says that his vision board aka dream board is on his cell phone as the screen saver and on his computer as the picture that pops up on the screen.

Don’t be idile with your DREAMS shift the gears and move that DREAM to reality.

Some dreams are too big for you to fathom. For instance, I would have never dreamed in a million years that a fundraising cookbook that I wrote would win an international award. I never dreamed that I would be asked to step on a stage in Paris, France and accept an award from a  prominent organization. I never dreamed that I would be asked to do a live on-air cooking demonstration for a television station in Cleveland, Ohio. I never dreamed that I would visit Rekavik, Iceland and drive a car there!

Manifesting Your Dreams by Gina Meyers

Manifestation isn’t a new idea, heard of the popular movie and book by Rhonda Byrne called The Secret? Twists on modern manifestation have focused on action as in visualizing what you want and imagining yourself achieving your dreams. One of the most popular and effective ways is to make a Dream Board or a Vision Board.

Creating a vision board and looking at it daily helps to expand your belief that the vision is possible. By designing your future with intention you raise the bar on your dreams.

A vision or dream board is a visual collection of images and words that you choose to represent your dreams in different areas or categories of your life. You have a record of a manifestation of your goals. Creating your own dream board, you choose and collect images that look to the future you hope and dream about and it helps to remind you of where your journey is heading and what your dreams are. You can construct your dream board with magazine pictures or by printing photos of images you desire.

Manifestation means using affirmations to bring something you want into existence through knowing what you want which is set by creating the goals and aspirational images into pratice. Another word for manifestation is the law of attraction.

You will benefit from creating a dream board because it helps you visualize your life goals from short to long term, it also helps you to set intentions, improves creativity, clarifies your dreams, boosts your motivation, and provides focus.

Learning to calibrate to your positive higher self

Learning to calibrate to your positive higher self

By Gina Meyers

(my understanding of the Teachings of Abraham from February 8th, 2020 with a conversation with Esther Hicks.)

I am listening to the teachings of Abraham, a workshop that happened on February 8th, 2020 in San Rafael, California, which would be about a month before the pandemic really turned our world upside down.

That’s not what I wanted to share as my epiphany. The epiphany occurred at 22:11 on the youtube Part 3 workshop in which Esther is talking with a man who is a construction site foreman and he anticipated a total annihilation of his job and that not only he would be fired but that the entire project would be shut down and a lot of people would lose their jobs and the situation would be disastrous in nature.

He decided to withdraw his upset emotion from the situation and suspend, walk away and recalibrate his feelings and high negative emotions about the situation.

When he was able to ascertain the situation in a more positive light, he was able to place himself back into the situation. When he met with the inspector, the inspector could find absolutely nothing wrong with the project and the construction project moved along flawlessly and without any concern or hesitation. And Esther says, “it was as if it never happened.”

I propose that it is the fear of the potential looming situation and the recalibration of one’s emotional fortitude that broke the power of the situation to, “as if it never happened.”

When listening to the teachings of Abraham you see the concept, where there is no “yin” there is no “yang”, and there “cannot be a problem without a solution.”

So when you calibrate yourself to another energetic force of a positive vibration, you can compartmentalize or separate and move your vibration higher instead of focusing on the thing that is bothering you.

In other words, if you have a sore toe and it really hurts, can you still enjoy the sunset? Can you still appreciate the love you have for others? Can you still watch a funny movie that makes you laugh?

By moving your vibration to a higher level you are recalibrating your feelings to a higher level and therefore you are able to work through the sore toe and in time move from “problem” to “solution”.

Acknowledge to isolate the situation and not  make it a part of the BIG picture.

Here is what Esther Hicks says: “when you are simultaneously calibrating on a problem you too are calibrating on the solution.”

You have to give yourself permission for the problems. You must disassociate yourself from the circumstance and not label yourself as wrong or bad. Evolve beyond the circumstance or situation.

So in reaching for your next good feeling thought what will it be?

Sicilian Girls: San Francisco Stories, Episode 1

My mom always said that San Francisco is such a beautiful city that you could fall in LOVE anywhere there.

San Francisco the city by the bay was my home.

I’m third generation Native San Franciscan and proud of it. No matter how much the city landscape changes, it always remains a vibrant, fun, picturesque city.

My grandparents met at a big band dance while my grandpa chig’s naval ship was docked at Pier 39 back in the 1940’s.

It was a night like no other. My Sicilian grandma Rose, who resembled the movie star Rosalind Russell, dressed up in her latest black tight knit dress from I Magnins.

Red lipstick, her jet black hair upturned on the ends, high heels, click clack,  headed with her sister Mary to the short walk from their parents’ flat on the corner of Mason and Lombard.

Mare and Roe what a sight. Both lookers for their day, and as they stopped by their father’s crab stand to have a bottle of coke a cola-- before the dance, they ran into their Uncle Nunzio who was working the six to midnight shift, “up the wharf.”

“Hey Mare”, Rose cried. “Wouldn’t it be neat if they played Artie Shaw’s in the mood and we danced all night with a naval officer?”

“Get your heads outta the clouds Roe,”  Mare said.

Rose ever the dreamer, was dreaming that night of finding her love and sure enough, a tall and lanky fellow by the name of Harold E. Hill, just like the main character in the play, The Music Man asked Rosalind to dance.

North Beach is home to Saints Peter and Pauls where Joe Dimaggio and his first wife wed. You hear the church bells chime every hour. Weird part is the address: 666 Filbert Street, sounds more like the devil’s calling card then an address for a cathedral.

Mason and Lombard is one block from the crookest street in the world, also known as  zig zag Hill, and you can hear the cables from the cable cars running all night long. With no air conditioning, the flat was equipped with wooden framed, single paned windows which rattled in the night, followed by fog horns which sounded and resounded like clock work.

Cue in the rain.
