Random Christmas Memory by Gina Meyers

Random Christmas Memory. The Christmas when I was fourteen and worked at Fresno Ag Hardware with my friend Noline wrapping Christmas gifts. My friend Noline's mom worked at Fresno Ag Hardware, so she got us the gig. https://fresnoag.com/. I remember feeling quite perplexed trying to wrap saws and hammers. My friend and I did a lot of laughing that Christmas especially when men would want us to wrap said saws and hammers to give as gifts to their wives! (looking back on that random Christmas memory, I'm wondering if the men were actually buying the gifts for themselves cause I don't think I would want a hammer for Christmas). Kind of a dangerous gift to give to someone period.

Top 5 Things To Know About Author Gina Meyers

1. When I was in kindergarten at Pinedale Elementary School, all the children, K-6th were asked to draw a poster for the upcoming Nelson/Pinedale School Carnival.

I won for the entire school and my poster was displayed at the School Carnival.

*They say to write what you know, the same goes for drawing, "draw what you know." I was a little girl, so I drew a picture of a little girl and a clown. The clown is holding balloons and so my hand is reaching towards the balloons. (The little girl is wearing a yellow dress with an apple on it). (My mom used to make some, not all of my dresses, and I would often request a special patch or something to make my dress unique/special).

2. In the late 90's or early 2000's  ish, I tried Proactiv after watching an Infomercial.

The product worked and I became a FAN. Inside one of the boxes, it asked to tell your story for a chance to be on the Proactiv Infomercial.

I wrote a story, it was a tad fictitious (I said that on my wedding day I cried because I saw a pimple and couldn't do anything about it, but my mild exaggeration was enough to be chosen for an all expenses paid two day photo shoot.  They paid for my plane ticket, a hotel stay in San Francisco, and limousine transportation to the house they scouted for the shoot in Kentfield, California. I got to learn all of the behind scene tricks and tips. One of the more ironic things that happened is I had a "bra malfunction" and Judith Light's personal stylist took me to the guest house where Judith was staying to special pins to hide my bra straps so it wouldn't show on camera. My scene or what I thought was going to be my fifteen minutes of fame was scraped from final production due to a helicopter that was too close to the garden outdoors shoot. The other irony was the owners of the home used the money from Guthy Ranker to GROW their garden and on my lunch break, they drove me to my Great Aunt and Uncle's home who lived less than a mile away.

I wrote an e book about my experiences meeting Actress Judith Light.

3. When I was seven or eight years of age, I had a lemonade stand on the corner of 3rd and Alluvial, (we lived on the corner), so next to  my childhood home. Because it was beginning to become a busy street, I knew I would have customers. I made Cherry Koolaid and Country Time Lemonade. I had one ladle. A lady with a baby stopped and ordered a lemonade. I accidentally put the ladle in the Cherry Koolaid, so her lemonade looked like, "Pink Lemonade." I remember the lady saying to me, "I just love Pink Lemonade thank you so much." That moment in my life made a lasting impression on me, that there are no mistakes in cooking and it's ok to make mistakes, cause there really aren't mistakes.

After all, that's how cookies were invented. https://whatscookingamerica.net/History/CookieHistory.htm

4. I used to have Bewitched plays in my backyard! I always made my childhood friend Rose be Serena. She used to cry to her mom and say, "Gina is so bossy, she always wants to be Samantha!"

Me with three childhood stars from Bewitched.

5. My friend Vicky invited me to the movie premier of Twilight. I couldn't get over how much the movie resonated with me and other women my age. I realized it would become a phenomena for all ages. As soon as I got home, (it was a midnight showing, so I pulled an almost all nigher) I snagged the book off my stepdaughter Makenna's bookshelf. She had requested the series of Twilight books from my mom as a birthday present. I read Twilight in three days and then was inspired to create a cookbook.

The title for the cookbook also was inspired. Love at first bite... The Unofficial Twilight Cookbook.

My daughter Lauren was the hand model for the cover. We bought the red apple from Lassens supermarket and I suggested we carve a heart out of the middle of the apple, the rest is history.

Surviving & Thriving at Christmas 2020 by Gina Meyers

by Gina Meyers

That's me with my Grandpa Chig, also known as Harold Hill/Santa Claus,  but he'll always be Grandpa Chig to me.

I just watched a movie called Surviving Christmas and it was hilarious. It had me in stitches from beginning until the end.

The best way to describe the movie in a nutshell is Drew, an advertising executive has a lot of hangups is stressed and anxious and doesn't like the holidays. He buys he and his girlfriend first class plane tickets to Fiji for Christmas Vacation. His girlfriend Missy dismisses this gesture and gives Drew an ultimatum, "invite me to meet your family and commit". Drew then seeks out the advice of Missy's therapist. Drew is told by his former girlfriend's therapist to go to his childhood home and list his grievances and then lite the piece of paper on fire. He attempts to do just that, however he is accousted by Mr. Valco, the new owner of  Drew's childhood home. With Drew's persistence, and $250,000 he asks (almost demands) that  the Valco's become his temporary  FAKE FAMILY for the holidays. (In the hopes of releasing all of the anxiety and childhood trauma he has from his formative years).

For a more in depth explanation, please visit, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surviving_Christmas

Drew, like so many of us, don't just want to survive the holidays, we want to thrive during the holidays. With Covid and all of our "old" traditions kinda out the window temporarily, we are having to forge ahead into a brave new world of planning for the holidays.

That's Drew's big worry, "being alone at Christmas". He would rather hire a fake family than to be alone. What he uncovers and discovers is more of a blessing for himself and the Valco Family. That in trying to please other people and make them happy, they too can find their passions, and they can make each other happy.

In other words, there is a big difference in "being alone" and "being lonely", he learns that in "being himself" regardless of his physical circumstance, "close to family", "far from family", "it's in the proximity to his kindness that he finds ultimate bliss."

To Thine Own Brand Be True by Gina Meyers

To Thine Own Brand Be True

Marketing, Covid, Your Life Purpose & More

by Gina Meyers

In my marketing classes at Fresno State University, I learned that nothing really happens in life until people buy something. It starts when people buy into something or feel that they need something.

The job of a good marketer is to intentionally reach more people who might need or want your product.

Right now with Covid, everything is going haywire. Companies and businesses are having to scramble to tell their patrons, clients, and fans that they are “doing business as usual,” not doing business, or doing business in a different way. This isn’t a political statement, but a necessary statement.

I am of the opinion that we are all essential, as we are human beings placed on Planet Earth. No job is more important than another, and don’t tell me that “closing down outdoor dining” is going to save anyone’s life when it is killing thousands of people’s livelihoods.

Ok, I got political. Back on point.

We all have had life experiences that have shaped who we are at the core of our being. Some of those experiences have been magnificent and joyful, while others have been traumatic and daunting.

In regards to the painful experiences you have had in your lifetime, you have lived through them and have gained resilience as a result. You may not recognize how much you have overcome in your life, but you have! Perhaps you have experienced childhood abuse. Perhaps you were once hospitalized from a serious injury accident, or maybe you went through a very painful divorce or an illness.

From that experience, you have gained some invisible (or visible) scars and may still have a few “wounds” to be healed, but you have lived to tell the tale. You are stronger. You have triumphed.

What does this have to do with your BRAND? A unique brand will have your story behind it.

People want to buy things from people who they feel are genuine, honest, and trustworthy. Your story is who you are, who you help, and what you can do for your client. In a nutshell, you can create your brand by sharing your story and crafting your message around it.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when you are considering your brand (as well as your services, products, and ideal clients):

1) What are some of your most difficult challenges in life thus far? How did you overcome those challenges?

2) What challenges have helped you become stronger and more capable of a person from having gone through them?

3) Do you feel compelled and passionate about helping others who are currently struggling with the same ones?

In identifying a painful life transition, relationship, or experience that has formulated who you are and how you recovered from it, you may have just tapped into your life purpose and your ideal business.

Your brand is a natural extension of you: all your pain and all your joy, all your stumbles and all your victorious returns.

You were first branded with an experience that is uniquely your own. Now brand your business by turning your past pain into a plan for helping others. There are masses of people in the world who are desperate for your message, and the time to reach them is now.

Remember, you choose how to brand your business. To Thine Own Brand Be True.
