There is a great sense in who America is, was, and will be today when I heard Ms. Amanda Gorman speak. Born just in 1998, two years after my daughter Lauren was born. Amanda spoke with eloquence, reverence, truth, grace and pure joy. She undoubtedly stole the show today and will go down in the history books for speaking her truth and the truth for so many Americans. Her poetry resonates on this historic day when the first woman in American history has become Vice President!
To see a young woman with so much hope and promise reminds us all, regardless of political party, that in America, all things are possible.
Excerpt of Poem, The Hill We Climb, by Amanda Gorman
Hers isn't a rags to riches story, it's a true American story, and a reminder that black, white, brown, from an impoverished background or from a wealthy family, or somewhere in between that the American DREAM is for all.

United we stand and divided we fall.
No one is going to sing a com by ya song in this moment--and many people are upset and downright indignant about the state of affairs and feeling lost by the system, disenfranchised.
All of us need to come together and fight the virus. If we can't agree on this, we won't succeed. We must learn to put aside our differences and come together with not words of hate, but words of hope.
Many years ago, I wrote a poem. I'm not a poet, nor do I play one on TV, but occasionally I do feel the need to express myself in poetic tome.

A Little Piece of Me Runs FREE
by Gina Meyers
She is the wind
She is the stars
She is the earth
She is Sioux.
A little piece of me....runs free
She is the part of me that people never see.
She wears no shoes, prefers moccasins.
She is from way back when.
A little piece of me, runs free.
What the majority of the world, except my immediate family know is my Great-Great Grandmother was an Indian Sioux. It is easy to "label" ourselves, but for those that can attribute "white skin" to their persona, then why bother with the 1/32rd Indian blood?!?
Because it matters. History teaches us lessons, we are living and breathing part of history.
